Increase in Number of Tourists Arriving in Israel towards Passover

The increase in inbound tourism to Israel has brought a significant increase in the number of regular airline flights that will land in Israel in the next few months.

Towards Passover, a 30% increase in the number of tourists that will arrive to celebrate the holiday in Israel was recorded. According to data, hotel occupancy is expected to be over 80% during Passover, and in Jerusalem and Eilat occupancy is expected to be even higher. In light of the significant increase in tourist flow into Israel these days, the Ministry of Tourism has made special preparations, focusing on enforcement and supervision in order to ensure an enjoyable and safe vacation to the hundreds of thousands of tourists and that will arrive at hotels, tourist sites and attractions throughout Israel. The Ministry's information offices at the Ben Guryon Airport, in Jerusalem, in Eilat and in Nazareth will also be available to tourists during the holiday.

Details of the Ministry's preparations for the holiday were given by the Ministry's CEO Shaul Tsemach during a meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who also holds the position of Minister of Tourism.

Tsemach mentioned to the Prime Minister that data indicates, among others, on a significant increase in the number of Christian pilgrims that plan to come to Israel during the holiday. According to Tsemach, the tendency towards an increase in tourism requires building new hotel rooms in Israel in order to accommodate the large demand.

The Prime Minister said that the government has recently approved grants amounting 150 million NIS to encourage investment in tourism, and that soon an additional 100 million NIS will be approved for investments in the tourist industry.

At the same time inbound tourism is increasing, an unprecedented 20% increase in the number of regular airline flights to and from Israel in the next few months is becoming apparent. This data was given by the CEO of the Ministry of Transportation, Gideon Siterman. According to him, companies such as Delta, Turkish Airlines, TransEuro, Thompson Fly, Corsair, New Axis and others plan to add routes and seats to their flights to Israel, as well as the Israeli airlines Arkia, Israir and El-Al, who plan to increase the volume of their flights by 10% during the summer months.
