New Activities and Paths in the City of David Site in Jerusalem |
|
|
The site offers guided tours through the "Jerusalem Trail", a segway tour of the Jerusalem Peace Forest, participation in "The Archeological Experience at Emek Tzurim", watching a new three dimensional exhibit and a professional course for tour guides. The City of David (the Ophel) site in Jerusalem continues to develop new tourism products and upgrading the existing ones. Among other things, it offers tourists and hikers a guided tour along the new "Jerusalem Trail", with an option of a tasks game during the tour. The game "A Jerusalem Mystery" takes place along the trail leaving Mount Scopus, passing through Emek Tzurim National Park, the Kidron River the feet of the Mount of Olives and Yad Avshalom and reaching the City of David. One may also participate in "The Archeological Experience" taking place at Emek Tzurim. The activity includes checking and searching for archeological findings inside mounds of earth cleared by the Islamic Waqf from the Solomon's Stables site at the Temple Mount. During the activity, participants are exposed to many findings through personal experience and active learning. During the visit, visitors can watch a new three dimensional exhibit located in a hall built like a plush entertaining room from the time of King David's reign. The display deals with the history of ancient Jerusalem and the story of the City of David. For interested parties, there is an option for a tour by segway, an innovative two-wheel vehicle activated by the body movements of the passenger. The route passes through the views of the Jerusalem Peace Forest and the Armon Hanatziv promenade, including observing the views from the Goldman promenade to the Old City of Jerusalem and the views of the Judean Desert. The City of David site also works to improve professional guidance at the site. As part of that, there is a refresher course for tour guides on the subject of the "Israel National Trail". The course will take place on April 15th 2008 and will include familiarization with the trail and information about new research findings in the "Archeological Experience" at Emek Tzurim. Additional information is available on the website: www.cityofdavid.org.il.
