The Jerusalem Municipality Advertised a Plan for Weekend Tours for 2008

   

Part of the tours are free of charge, and are held after the 2007 tour program, in which 8,000 tourists and hikers participated.

The weekend hikes through Jerusalem take place on Fridays and Saturdays through routes that include charming places, unique sites and the city's neighborhoods. The Friday tours are in Hebrew only, with guides from Yad Ben-Zvi Center for Jerusalem Studies at the cost of 30 NIS per participant. Hikes start at10:00 from meeting places given upon registration over the phone - 02-6271155. The Saturday tours are free of charge in English and in Hebrew, led by guides certified by the Jerusalem Tourist Authority. These tours take place in all weather starting at 10:00 from the Safra Square in 26 Jaffa Street. Information about these tours is available on 02-5314600.

The list of tours planned for the next few weeks includes the one held on February 29th about "Jerusalem Mosaics" in the neighborhoods of Nachlaot, Ohel Moshe, Mazkeret Moshe, Mishkenot Israel, Batei Rand and others. On the same day there will also be a tour on the subject of "Yearning Zion" through a route that includes graves of notable Jews in the Mount of Olives Cemetery.

On March 1st there will be a tour of the German Colony. The route will include Nahlat Shiva, King David Street, the Valley of Refaim Street and more.

On March 7th there will be a tour of Jerusalem, sacred to all religions, which includes Mount Zion, King David's Tomb, the Dormition Abbey and a view from the President's Room located on the site.

On March 8th there will be an additional tour of the City of David. The route includes the Jaffa Gate, the Armenian Patriarchy Street, the Zion Gate, the Dung Gate, the Ophel (the City of David) and the Gihon Spring.

On March 14th there will be a tour on the subject of "Europe in Jerusalem, Building During the 19th Century and the Actions of the World Powers", as well as "A Voyage Through Time to the Place where Jerusalem was Born".

Additional tours will take place on March 15th in the Nachlaot neighborhood and its surrounding neighborhoods, and on March 21st there will be a tour of "Houses Wearing Costumes in Jerusalem" to mark the holiday of Purim.
